Thirteen Strings is Ottawa’s premiere chamber music orchestra, founded in 1976 to promote baroque music. Today, they still play baroque, are still ambitious, and have extended their repertoire to include compositions from the early 1700s right up to the modern day, with an emphasis on Canadian repertoire.

All year – Operation Go Home is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping youth on the streets. Founded in 1971 by the late Rev. Norman Johnston (a police chaplain), OGH began by helping to reunite street youth with their families. Growing in reputation, Operation Go Home continues to help hundreds of youth and families across Canada. OGH remains the only organization in Canada that reunites youth with their families. All year –Capital BrassWorks was founded in 1999, inspired by the success of large-scale brass concerts every year at the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. The musicians are drawn from the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. Guest artists from Toronto and Montreal have also participated. The group's repertoire includes everything from Renaissance music to Contemporary pieces for brass in all styles, including settings for brass, percussion and organ. The ensemble has also premiered original compositions and arrangements by local and Canadian musicians. www.capitalbrassworks.com. 2007 Events …

October 2007 – helped sponsor the national speaking tour of a noted international fundraising expert who spoke to dozens of charities, small and large, about how to improve their fundraising and monthly donations, with a special emphasis on electronic fund raising.

Sept 2007 – The Betty Tweedy Golf Classic is held each year in Ottawa in honour of Betty, who worked tirelessly promoting sports for Canadians. She died of lung cancer in 1987. The tournament has raised over $60,000 in the last 19 years to fight cancer: www.bettytweedygolfclassic.ca

September 2007 – as print sponsors of the Canadian Paraplegic Association’s Annual Ottawa Wheelchair Relay, attended the pre-event rally hosted by chair Jeff Hunt of the Ottawa 67’s – www.ottawa67s.com. Cielo provided posters, pledge forms, and other printed materials to the Relay in support of their fundraising to support CPA services in Eastern Ontario (www.cpaont.org).

August Annually – supported our client Giant Tiger, www.gianttiger.ca, by helping sponsor free rides on the big yellow train at the end of summer family tradition, the Ottawa Ex: www.ottawasuperex.com

June 2007 – Ottawa Carleton Assoc. of Disabled Persons charity golf tournament. Supplied three golfers to help raise funds for their causes.

May 2007 – Somerset West Community Health Centre. Donated printed material in support of their fundraising.

May 2007 – The Bronson Centre. This centre provides inexpensive office space to non-profit organizations. We donated printed programs/booklets for the fundraising golf tournament and sent two golfers to support the campaign.

May 2007 - Food Aid – From the Ground Up. Cielo donated the printing of 1000 cookbooks for The Ottawa Food Bank fundraiser. The fundraiser includes a 12-hour radiothon on CFRA and BBQ. The funds are used to purchase and process beef from local farmers and add protein to the diets of needy families.

Spring 2007 – corporate sponsor to the Futuretex show. This event, hosted by Textiles Human Resources Council, promotes the textile industry opportunities in Canada, including work opportunities for young people. www.thrc-crhit.org

Fall 2006 – Spring 2007 – sponsor of the Goulbourn Rams Major Atom A hockey team. These determined young players were the regular season and league champions, the Syracuse Stars Champions, the Sensplex Tournament Champions, and Bell Capital Cup finalists. We are proud to help the team!

Feb. 2007 – supporting the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) fundraiser we purchased hundreds of pots of blooming crocus to give to our clients to herald the end of winter and coming of spring. (www.cnib.ca/community/ontario/districts/ottawa)

Donated raffle prize to the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council who, with prizes and donations from us and other vendors, gave a significant boost to a needy family with autistic children. www.cab-acr.ca
